HYBE Posts Record Q1 Revenue of $468 Million as BTS ‘ARIRANG’ Dominates Global Charts

HYBE Posts Record Q1 Revenue of 8 Million as BTS ‘ARIRANG’ Dominates Global Charts

HYBE, the powerhouse behind global K-Pop sensations like BTS, ENHYPEN, and KATSEYE, has officially shattered its own records. The entertainment giant reported its highest-ever first-quarter revenue for 2026, reaching a staggering 698.3 billion Korean won (approximately $468 to $473 million). This remarkable 39.5% year-on-year surge proves that the agency’s strategic expansion and the highly anticipated return of BTS are paying off in unprecedented ways.

The Unstoppable Force of BTS’s ‘ARIRANG’

At the core of HYBE’s explosive Q1 growth is the monumental success of BTS’s fifth studio album, ARIRANG. Released in March 2026, the album marked the group’s grand return following their extended hiatus for mandatory military service. The impact was immediate and historic.

ARIRANG sold an astonishing 3.98 million copies on its very first day. According to global music analytics firm Luminate, the LP version alone moved 208,000 copies in a single week—the highest weekly sales for any group since tracking began in 1991. The album dominated the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, holding the No. 1 spot for three consecutive weeks, a first for any K-Pop act.

“The strong fan turnout across North America, Europe and Asia has demonstrated the global expansion of K-pop,” stated HYBE CEO Lee Jae-sang during the recent conference call, highlighting the massive scale of the ongoing BTS world tour.

Furthermore, the album’s lead single, “Swim,” became BTS’s seventh No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. In a historic milestone, all 13 tracks from ARIRANG charted simultaneously on the Hot 100, solidifying BTS’s unrivaled position in the global music industry.

A Thriving Roster: ENHYPEN, KATSEYE, and CORTIS

While BTS provided a massive boost, HYBE’s record-breaking quarter was also fueled by the robust performance of its diverse artist portfolio. The company’s direct revenue streams, which include albums, concerts, and advertising, grew by 25% year-on-year to 403.7 billion won. Music-related sales alone surged by 99%, reaching 271.5 billion won—a figure comparable to the historic K-Pop album sales peak in Q4 2023.

ENHYPEN achieved their fourth double-million-seller status with their seventh mini-album, THE SIN: VANISH. Meanwhile, the global girl group KATSEYE set a new worldwide record for girl groups by surpassing 32 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with their two EPs exceeding 1 million in cumulative sales.

The momentum didn’t stop there. Rising boy group CORTIS broke the record for the highest first-album sales by a K-Pop group, moving over 2 million copies of their debut album, COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES. This multi-label success strategy ensures that HYBE is not solely reliant on a single act, building a sustainable ecosystem for long-term growth.

Understanding the Q1 Operating Loss

Despite the record-breaking revenue, HYBE reported an operating loss of 196.6 billion won for the first quarter, swinging from a profit of 21.6 billion won a year earlier. However, this figure requires context. The loss was entirely driven by a one-time accounting expense of 255 billion won.

This expense was recognized after HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk donated shares from his personal holdings to serve as performance bonuses and incentives for employees. Because this was a transfer of personal assets, it did not involve any actual cash outflow from the company. When excluding this one-off item, HYBE’s adjusted operating profit actually stood at a healthy 58.5 billion won, representing a 170.8% increase year-on-year with an operating margin of 8.4%.

Looking Ahead: A Massive Q2 on the Horizon

The future looks incredibly bright for HYBE. Indirect revenue, encompassing merchandise, licensing, content, and fan clubs, increased by 66% to 294.7 billion won. This was largely driven by the surging demand for BTS’s world tour merchandise. Additionally, the global super-fan platform Weverse recorded an all-time high of 13.37 million monthly active users, a 20% increase from the previous quarter.

HYBE anticipates even steeper growth in revenue and profit for the second quarter. This optimism is backed by the full reflection of sales from the massive 85-stop BTS world tour, which is currently selling out 50,000-seat stadiums across the globe. Furthermore, highly anticipated new releases from major acts like TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), LE SSERAFIM, TWS, ILLIT, and CORTIS are expected to drive further momentum.

As HYBE continues to break records and expand its global footprint, the agency is proving that its multi-label system and unparalleled artist roster are a winning formula in the ever-evolving landscape of global entertainment.
