BTS Draws 50,000 Fans to Mexico’s National Palace Ahead of Sold-Out ARIRANG Tour Concerts

The global phenomenon known as BTS has once again proven their unparalleled influence, drawing an astonishing crowd of approximately 50,000 fans to Mexico City’s Zócalo square in less than five hours. The K-pop supergroup made a historic appearance on the balcony of Mexico’s National Palace on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, following an exclusive meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. This monumental event occurred just ahead of their highly anticipated three-day concert series at the Estadio GNP Seguros, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing cultural exchange between South Korea and Mexico.

A Historic Meeting at the National Palace

The atmosphere in Mexico City reached a fever pitch as news spread of BTS’s arrival at the presidential headquarters. Dressed impeccably in elegant beige and navy-blue suits, the seven members stepped onto the balcony to greet the massive sea of ARMYs who had braved the intense heat for a glimpse of their idols. The members themselves appeared visibly moved by the overwhelming turnout, taking out their phones to capture the euphoria radiating from the Constitution Plaza.

During her regular morning press briefing, President Sheinbaum confirmed the visit, describing BTS as a band that “always delivers messages of friendship, peace and love.” Following the meeting, she took to social media to share a photograph with the group, stating, “I warmly welcome one of the most beloved groups among the youth of Mexico: BTS. Music and values unite Mexico and South Korea.”

The invitation to the National Palace highlights the deep connection between the group and their Mexican fanbase. Earlier in January, President Sheinbaum had even written a letter to South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, requesting more BTS concerts in the country—a request that was subsequently forwarded to HYBE, the agency managing the supergroup.

Heartfelt Messages to Mexican ARMYs

Though their balcony appearance lasted only about five minutes, the impact was profound. The members took the opportunity to address the crowd directly, blending English and Spanish to express their deep gratitude.

“Muchas gracias for having us. We can’t wait for tomorrow’s concert on stage. Let’s have fun together! Te amo. Te quiero, Muchas gracias,” RM shared enthusiastically with the roaring crowd.

V also touched the hearts of many by reading a prepared message in Spanish from his phone. “Hello. I don’t speak Spanish very well, but I will try,” he began. “I’ve missed you. We’ve missed Mexico so much. The energy here is incredible. Thank you so much for loving us so much. See you next time. Goodbye.”

President Sheinbaum also addressed the crowd briefly, echoing the sentiments of countless fans by stating, “I already told them that they have to come back next year,” hinting at the widespread desire for a free concert at the Zócalo in the future.

The ARIRANG World Tour Takes Over Mexico City

This historic visit sets the stage for BTS’s massive concerts at the Estadio GNP Seguros on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday (May 7, 9, and 10). The shows are a crucial part of their expansive “ARIRANG” world tour in North America, which includes 31 shows across 12 cities. Following their Mexico City dates, the group will head to Stanford, California, and Las Vegas before returning to Busan for a two-day concert in June.

The demand for these concerts has been staggering. According to promoter Ocesa, over 136,000 tickets were sold for the three dates, with all shows selling out shortly after tickets went on sale. This marks BTS’s fourth time performing in Mexico City, following previous visits in 2014 and 2015, showcasing their enduring and growing popularity in the region.

The economic impact of the tour is equally impressive. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce projects that the concerts will generate approximately $107.5 million in economic activity for the capital, underscoring the immense financial power of the K-pop industry on a global scale.

Mexico’s Undeniable Love for K-Pop

The staggering turnout at the National Palace is a testament to Mexico’s position as a major hub for K-pop consumption. According to Spotify data released last year, Mexico ranks as the fifth-largest K-pop streaming market globally. Within this massive market, BTS reigns supreme as the most-streamed K-pop artist among local listeners.

The group’s dominance on the charts is undeniable. Their 2020 album “Map of the Soul: 7” holds the title of the most-streamed K-pop album in Mexico, while their global smash hit “Dynamite” is the most-streamed K-pop song in the country since the genre’s international boom. In fact, seven of the top 10 K-pop songs streamed in Mexico are BTS tracks, highlighting their unparalleled influence.

As BTS prepares to take the stage at the Estadio GNP Seguros, the energy in Mexico City is palpable. The historic meeting at the National Palace not only solidified the bond between the group and their Mexican fans but also highlighted the incredible unifying power of music. With their ARIRANG tour continuing to break records and capture hearts worldwide, BTS proves once again that their global impact knows no bounds.
