BLACKPINK’s ‘DEADLINE’ Shatters First-Week Sales Record With 1.77 Million Copies

BLACKPINK has once again proven their unrivaled global influence, shattering the first-week sales record for a K-pop girl group with their highly anticipated third EP, “DEADLINE.” Released on February 27, 2026, the album has taken the music industry by storm, marking a triumphant return for the quartet after their individual solo endeavors. According to Korea JoongAng Daily, the EP sold an astounding 1.77 million copies in its first week, cementing BLACKPINK’s status as the undisputed queens of K-pop.

A Historic Commercial Milestone

The success of “DEADLINE” is nothing short of phenomenal. The EP surpassed 1.46 million copies sold on its very first day, instantly breaking previous records. By the end of the first week, the total reached over 1.77 million copies, as reported by YG Entertainment citing Hanteo Chart data. This remarkable figure surpasses their previous album, “Born Pink,” by 230,000 units and shatters the previous girl group record held by aespa’s “My World” since May 2023, according to The Korea Herald.

The commercial impact was immediate and global. “DEADLINE” surged to the top of Hanteo’s monthly albums chart for February in just two and a half days. Furthermore, the five-track mini-album debuted atop iTunes albums charts in 38 regions worldwide and is projected to make a strong entry on the Billboard 200 chart.

Creative Evolution and Group Synergy

“DEADLINE” represents BLACKPINK’s first studio project together since 2022, following a period where members Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé focused on highly successful solo careers. The EP features five tracks, including the main single “Go,” which holds special significance as it is the first-ever song co-written by all four members. The music video for “Go” quickly dominated YouTube, ranking as the worldwide trending video and amassing over 40 million views within 24 hours.

An NPR review highlights the album’s thematic focus on group unity and sisterhood. Tracks like “Champion” and “Me and My” emphasize their allied front, with lyrics celebrating their collective strength. Interestingly, four of the five songs are entirely in English, reflecting the group’s expanding global ambitions and their collaboration with international heavyweights like Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Diplo, and Dr. Luke, alongside their longtime producer Teddy.

A Monumental Return

To celebrate the release, BLACKPINK hosted a unique listening experience at the National Museum of Korea in partnership with Spotify. This symbolic gesture, bathing the museum in pink light, positioned the group’s music within a historical and cultural context, emphasizing their legacy and longevity in the industry.

As BLACKPINK continues to break boundaries and set new standards, “DEADLINE” stands as a testament to their enduring popularity and the powerful synergy of Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé when they come together. The K-pop landscape remains firmly under their reign.
