Just days after celebrating their fourth anniversary, rising K-Pop girl group NMIXX has made history in Latin America. On February 24, the six-member group became the first-ever K-Pop act to perform at Chile’s prestigious Viña del Mar International Song Festival, taking home the coveted Silver and Golden Gaviota awards and conquering the festival’s notoriously tough audience, known as “El Monstruo.”
A Historic Night at a Legendary Festival
The Viña del Mar International Song Festival, with over 65 years of history, is the largest and most influential music festival in Latin America. NMIXX’s invitation to perform alongside global stars like Gloria Estefan and the Pet Shop Boys was already a significant milestone. However, the group didn’t just perform; they triumphed. As reported by Music Mundial, NMIXX won both the Silver and Golden Seagull (La Gaviota) awards, an achievement determined entirely by the 15,000-strong live audience. This makes them the first K-Pop artist in history to win both prestigious awards, a testament to their powerful performance and connection with the crowd.
Winning Over ‘The Monster’ with a Diverse Setlist
NMIXX delivered an extensive and dynamic setlist that showcased their unique “MIXXPOP” genre. Their performance included a special collaboration with Chilean artist Kidd Voodoo on his song “PONTE LOKITA,” as well as a stunning array of their own hits like “O.O,” “DICE,” “Love Me Like This,” and their latest title track, “DASH.” Demonstrating their dedication to their Latin American fans, the group also performed a Spanish version of their song “SOÑAR” and delivered a heartfelt speech in Spanish. This effort clearly resonated with the audience and the broader Latin fan community, who praised the group’s hard work and captivating stage presence.
A Global Trajectory on their 4th Anniversary
This historic achievement in Chile comes as NMIXX celebrates four years since their debut on February 22, 2022. According to Allkpop, the group has been consistently expanding its global activities. Prior to their appearance in Chile, NMIXX was also the first K-Pop group to participate in the São Paulo Carnival in Brazil, performing for an estimated two million spectators. With their recent successes and new music on the horizon, including a collaboration with Brazilian drag queen Pabllo Vittar, NMIXX is solidifying its position as a rising force on the global stage.
