Seoul Transforms Into a Purple Wonderland for BTS ‘The City Arirang Seoul’ Festival

Seoul is about to transform into a massive purple playground. In celebration of BTS’s highly anticipated comeback and their fifth studio album ARIRANG, the South Korean capital will host a month-long citywide festival dubbed “BTS The City Arirang Seoul.” This unprecedented event marks the group’s first full-group album release since 2022, following their nearly four-year hiatus due to mandatory military service. The festival promises to turn the entire city into an immersive experience for ARMYs worldwide, blending music, technology, and culture across major landmarks.

A Month-Long Purple Celebration

The ambitious project, announced through the global fan platform Weverse, is scheduled to run from March 20—the exact day the ARIRANG album drops—through April 19, 2026. Organized in partnership with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and HYBE, the festival aims to provide an unforgettable experience for fans flocking to the city. The celebration is not just a series of events; it is a comprehensive urban takeover that integrates mobility, hospitality, finance, and food sectors to enhance the visitor experience.

Illuminating Seoul’s Historic Landmarks

The festivities will kick off with a spectacular visual display on the evening of March 20. Starting at 7:00 PM KST, media facade displays will illuminate some of Seoul’s most iconic historic sites, including the N Seoul Tower and Sungnyemun, one of the city’s historic Four Great Gates. The visual extravaganza will continue with a 15-minute drone light show lighting up the skies above Ttukseom Hangang Park at 8:30 PM KST. Furthermore, music-synchronized light shows tied to the group’s new songs, including the lead single “SWIM,” will take place at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and the Banpo Bridge Moonlight Rainbow Fountain.

Interactive Fan Experiences and Installations

Beyond the visual spectacles, “BTS The City Arirang Seoul” offers numerous interactive programs designed to engage fans directly. A citywide “stamp rally” will invite visitors to explore Seoul and collect stamps at key locations such as Yeouido Hangang Park, DDP, and Shinsegae Square. From March 20 to 22, Yeouido Hangang Park will also host the “Love Song Lounge,” providing a dedicated music listening space alongside busking performances and curated photo zones.

The Epicenter: Gwanghwamun Square

Gwanghwamun Square will serve as a central hub for the comeback celebrations. Large outdoor screens will broadcast comeback-related content continuously from 7:00 PM on March 20 until midnight the following day. This historic location is also the chosen venue for the highly anticipated free performance, “BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG,” scheduled for March 21 at 8:00 PM KST. The concert, which will be streamed live globally on Netflix, is expected to draw massive crowds, prompting extensive security and traffic measures by local authorities.

Expanding the Global Footprint

While Seoul is the epicenter of the current festivities, the “BTS The City” project is expected to expand to major cities worldwide as the group embarks on their “Arirang” world tour starting in April. The festival is supported by a wide array of partners, including Samsung, Shinsegae, Kakao T, Seoul City Tour Bus, and various luxury hotels and dining establishments, ensuring a comprehensive and premium experience for all attendees. As the world waits for the release of ARIRANG, Seoul is ready to welcome ARMYs to a celebration of music, resilience, and the enduring legacy of BTS.
