BTS ‘ARIRANG’ Smashes Records with 3.98 Million First-Day Sales and 18.4 Million Netflix Viewers

Unprecedented numbers are rolling in for BTS’s highly anticipated comeback album, ARIRANG, proving that the global pop icons have only grown stronger during their hiatus. Within just 24 hours of its release on March 20, 2026, the 14-track project shattered the group’s own previous records, selling an astonishing 3.98 million copies according to Hanteo Chart data. This monumental achievement completely eclipses their 2020 record set by Map of the Soul: 7, which sold 3.37 million copies in its entire first week.

Shattering First-Day Sales Records Worldwide

The commercial dominance of ARIRANG extends far beyond physical album sales in South Korea. The album immediately claimed the No. 1 spot on iTunes Top Albums charts in 88 countries and regions, including major markets like Italy, Mexico, and Sweden. The lead single, “SWIM,” made an even bigger splash, topping the iTunes Top Songs charts in 90 markets such as the United States, Japan, Britain, Germany, and France. In Japan, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Oricon Daily Albums Chart with 541,000 first-day sales, marking the biggest first-day sales for a Korean album in the country’s history.

Netflix Concert Draws 18.4 Million Global Viewers

The massive album sales were perfectly complemented by a historic live performance. On March 21, BTS took over Seoul’s iconic Gwanghwamun Square for “BTS The Comeback Live | ARIRANG,” a free concert that was broadcast globally on Netflix. The streaming giant reported that the one-hour show attracted a staggering 18.4 million global viewers (Live+1). The broadcast reached the weekly Top 10 in 80 countries and secured the No. 1 spot in 24 countries, generating over 2.62 billion social impressions across Netflix’s owned channels.

Intimate Spotify SWIMSIDE Event in New York City

Following their massive Seoul concert, BTS brought the ARIRANG experience to the United States. On March 23, the group performed their first U.S. show in nearly four years at an exclusive Spotify SWIMSIDE event at Pier 17 in New York City. Performing for an intimate crowd of 1,000 top local Spotify listeners, the setlist featured new tracks including “2.0,” “SWIM,” and “NORMAL.” The event also included a special Q&A session hosted by Suki Waterhouse, where the members shared exclusive insights into the making of the album.

The Creative Vision Behind ARIRANG

Produced under the direction of HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, ARIRANG explores BTS’s identity as a group that began in Korea while touching on universal feelings shared through their musical journey. The 14-track album features collaborations with renowned producers like Diplo and Kevin Parker. The lead track, “SWIM,” carries a powerful message of resilience and moving forward through life’s waves, a theme that clearly resonates with millions of fans who have eagerly awaited their return.

What’s Next: The Documentary and World Tour

The momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Fans can look forward to the upcoming documentary BTS: THE RETURN, premiering on Netflix on March 27, which offers an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at the members regrouping in the studio. Furthermore, the group is gearing up for their massive 2026-2027 World Tour, which will cover 34 cities starting with three hometown concerts at Goyang Stadium in South Korea on April 9. With ARIRANG, BTS hasn’t just made a comeback; they have redefined the pinnacle of global pop success.
