- “You’re Under Arrest”: the title track, called the emotional climax where the narrator resolves to cut ties (Korea Daily).

What the Album Is About
The title borrows an economic term for a state of neither loss nor gain. According to Belift Lab, as quoted by The Korea Times, the album centers on refusing to keep investing effort in a relationship that gives nothing back.
Korea Daily says ILLIT will no longer invest heart and time in relationships that don’t return equal effort, and that a label representative described Bang Si-hyuk’s “sensory-driven production” as organically connecting the emotional line of each song. In the same report, the title track is framed against “It’s Me”: that single was about falling deeper, while this one is about ending things.
On sound, Wikipedia lists dance, speed garage, electro-pop and baile funk as the genres across the four tracks. Producers named there include “Hitman” Bang, Dave Hamelin and Ink, among others.
“You’re Under Arrest” MV Teaser Breakdown
The first music video teaser went up on the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel on October 23, according to Seoul Vibes. It sets up a spy concept: the members appear as black-clad agents gathering at an unexpected base, a restaurant that specializes in kongguksu, a noodle dish served in chilled soybean milk.
The briefing starts with serious faces. Then Wonhee throws a pair of chopsticks toward a blackboard, and they land beside an investigation board targeting a man labeled “eojang-gwallin nam,” a Korean term for someone who leads women on without committing to a relationship, per Seoul Vibes.
Seoul Vibes also describes the song as an electropop title track with whistle sounds and a catchy hook. Wikipedia calls the whistle “cheerful,” which fits the contrast between the bright sound and the decision to end an ambiguous relationship.
A second teaser was scheduled for October 25, according to Seoul Vibes. The full video arrives with the album the next day.
Pre-Save Numbers and Early Chart Signals
BREAK EVEN passed 500,000 Spotify pre-saves as of October 23 and ranked No. 1 on Spotify’s Top 10 Pre-Save chart, per Seoul Vibes. Pre-saves are not streams, but they show how many listeners lined up before release.
The group previewed the title track at its ILLIT LIVE ‘PRESS START♥’ encore concerts in Korea on October 17 and 18. The Seoul Vibes report says the performance video passed one million YouTube views in about 21 hours. It topped YouTube’s Korean Daily Popular Music Videos chart dated October 21 and also appeared on daily charts in Japan, Singapore and other countries.
The bar for the first week is set by the previous release. “It’s Me” peaked at No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100, according to The Korea Times. Chart positions for BREAK EVEN will not exist until after release, so check back for first-week sales and streaming totals.
Background: ILLIT in 2026
The Korea Times notes that ILLIT has been a four-member group since June, when Moka halted activities to focus on her health. BREAK EVEN is therefore the group’s first mini album as a four-piece, based on that timeline.
ILLIT has had a busy year. We reported on the launch of the PRESS START tour, the April 30 announcement of It’s Me and the MAMIHLAPINATAPAI first-week sales and Billboard 200 debut. The group also took part in the HYBE collaboration covered in our ICONIC BY MISTAKE report.
How Fans Are Reacting
Korean fans on the theqoo community praised the premise of the teaser, especially the target of the investigation and the kongguksu restaurant setting, Seoul Vibes reports. The one-million-view encore performance video and the pre-save total are the clearest measures of interest so far.
Fan reaction to the full video and the album will be easier to judge once both are public. We will update this article when there is something concrete to cite.
